I can create use my art skills to create unique and innovative works of art and design unique products.
The card I was given was the ace of spade. I chose to draw a spade or shovel in place of the spade because I thought it was unique and more obvious than the other options I came up with. I then chose to make it look like I had three cards, along with the ace of spade, fanned out to give it a little different look.
I had the problem of making my spade look like it had depth. I couldn’t get the paint to look like it was curved. To solve this I just painted the whole thing black, but made sure the shape was perfect, so that it still looked like a spade. I also painted a wooden handle on the spade to represent a grip.
Overall I am happy with my card project. It’s neat and you can understand what I was going for. It’s exactly what I wanted once I figured out what I wanted. It took time to figure it out, but it looks good.
I can use the creative process to design products that will impact everyday life.
I choose to make a good bishop chess piece. Ice cream cones remind me of summer and I thought it was a good representation of the good part of the good vs. evil chess set. Summer is a happy and fun time. I thought a vanilla ice cream cone was a perfect choice.
One problem I encountered was carving the cone. I didn't know if I should let it dry then carve it, or carve it when it is soft. I also didn't know what to carve it with. I decided to carve it after I let it set for a day so that it was still soft but beginning to dry. And I used a tooth pick to carve.
I thought it was a lot better to have each individual student make a piece, rather then the whole chess set, because that would have taken up a lot of time to finish. And I think it allowed for more creativity.
I can work with others to discuss and resolve artistic problems.
TAPE MURAL
We choose to make Yao Ming because it was a fun and creative idea that no one else had thought of. It was also challenging because it was a face.
One problem we encountered was the tape. We used the electrical tape on the white brick. And when it was stretched it would pull back into its original tightness again and hang off the wall. A simple solution for this was to not stretch it out before sticking it. It was also difficult to get the proportions right.
If you use electrical tape, don't stretch it too much, because it will pull off the wall and it is more difficult to stick. It also sticks better to the painted white brick, then the actual brick.
For the groupings I think 2-3 people would be best. And I think one week is enough time.
I chose to create a snake. I chose to make it in a pile because I thought that made it more unique than just a regular snake. I made the snake out of pencils and the tree out of colored penciles.
One problem I encountered was my snake looking a little smudgey from the pencil. I fixed this by outlining it in black colored pencil. That was the only problem I encountered.
I am happy with the outcome of my pencil drawing. My snake has the waxy look it is suppose to and it is pretty neat and not messy.
I can understand the relationship between personal experiences and the development of a work of art.
My life story is pretty boring. Not a whole lot of exciting things happened. Only your usual occasional bumps and bruises, lost relatives, and broken hearts that happen to every girl. One very important event in my life was the passing of my grandma. It was a pretty painful time for me and it took a lot for me to get through.
One problem I encountered was my pictures being a little bent from being old. They didn't want to stay down when I glued them. To fix those I just glued one at a time and held it down. Another was the type of medium I wanted to use. I decided on marker.
I'm mostly happy with the final product. It's kinda plain and simple. But I like it. I Plan on using it for my open house. It will be one of the posters I will put out.
I think I have grown a lot over the course of the semester. The first project, the playing card, was pretty simple. But I got more creative with each product. My ice cream cone is my favorite product I have done in both art classes I took.
Creativity and education are a major part of the work place. Without them it would be a boring and plain world. Creativity adds life to everything. It makes things worth while and interesting. It makes people think as well.
